My little fashionista

Here's a video right before dinner tonight, which if you couldn't tell, was soup. I absolutely just loved the outfit that Riley had on, and even more so, how she made sure her hat was still on after she got up on her tower.

To summarize, Riley had on her pink hat (which she just absolutely had to have on); a bib with a dog on it (currently her favorite to walk around all day with it on); her nursing necklace which she was wearing Rambo style; and 1 of my slippers (and no, she did *not* want my other slipper, thank you very much).

How cute was her "I love you" at the end? :)

Hop! Hop!

It's the wrong holiday I know, but Riley found the bunny ears that we had gotten her for Easter. I put them on my head yesterday and showed her how to hop like a bunny. So, this morning she came hopping down the hallway as I was putting her clothes away. How adorable!

Vocabulary

Recently Riley's language development has really started to take off. She's been able to comprehend the meaning of words for a while now, but has generally seemed to be reluctant to try and say the words. It's like she wanted to be sure of her ability to say the word before she gave it a shot.

So, we're not sure if her recent explosion with trying new words is a result of an increase in confidence in her own ability or perhaps because of the strengthening of certain muscles in her mouth. Probably a little bit of both I'd imagine, among other things.

Here's a video that we took this morning. It's not too long as Riley really wanted to go outside, which by the way is a new word for her (only a day or two old). You'll also hear Riley's use of a 2 word phrase, which is also really new. At the moment she can really only say "Riley's xxx," "Daddy's yyy," or "Mommy's zzz," (where xxx, yyy, and zzz are variables). However, we think it's absolutely amazing. :)

Enjoy!

Where's Riley?

One of the cutest things to watch is how Riley has taken the initiative in playing games. One such game is one we call, "Where's Riley?" We started this early on by putting her blanket ("Fluff") on her head, and asking her "Where's Riley?" Then Riley would pull the blanket off.

This morning, Riley initiated a spin-off of this game. She bent down "behind" our coffee table, "waited" until we said "Where's Riley?" and then popped up, giggling, laughing, and smiling away. I put the words behind and waited in quotes because Riley would sometimes either bend down where we could see her or get so excited that she would pop up immediately after she bent down!

You might also note while watching the video that Riley says something which is very close to the word, "Hi!" We're not a 100% positive if this should be counted as her first word, but really can you ever be? It sure sounds like it AND she's saying it at a time where it makes sense to say it (after we say, "Hi Riley!" she says "Hi!"). So who knows, huh? (On a related note, when she claps it sounds very much like she is saying "Yay!" which would make sense since we always modeled saying "Yay!" when we clapped.)

Walkie Talkie

Three of Riley's favorite things all in one place: Walking, talking, and this crazy copycat baby named Yelir that seems to hang around the bedroom.

What did Dolly do?

Perhaps she didn't dance well enough? In any case, Dolly's incapacitated at the moment, so she asked me to relay the following message -

"Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow."

Standing tall

Every time I see this video I think two things. One, just how big Riley has gotten. Two, and more importantly, just how darn cute she is, especially when she "talks." Do you think the latter will be true in a few years?

Possible Interpretations

You gotta wonder what they are trying to say, if anything at all. It's possible that it's something like, "Dolly, why do you think they aren't putting a diaper on me? It's kind of drafty down there. Maybe you can tell them? Hey! Why aren't you saying anything? Talk!" Perhaps...

Well, she's not taking after Daddy, huh?

We've got a talker, and as we all know, Cam's not known for his verbosity.

(I'm actually on the other end of the phone talking to her. :-) )
